Red Spider miniature
zinnias and small marigolds create a Southwest look when combined with Mexican
Hat! Ole!
Drought tolerant annual-to-perennial native to the mid- west and seen across North
America. This is a small flower growing off the bottom of a one inch, black
capsule-shaped cone (thus the name, "Mexican Hat"). Brick red flared petals
edged with yellow are most common, but all-yellow petals occur as a recessive trait and
make an attractive contrast to the red. Very complimentary when planted with Zinnias and
Indian Blanket! This splash of tiny sombreros in a corner of the garden or when
used as edging around a tall flower bed will remind your visitors of Spanish Gardens from
long ago...TRY 'EM! You'll like 'em!
Some Mexican Hats are
primarily red with yellow tips on the petals while others are yellow with red
tips! The beguiling feature is not the color, however, but rather the
tall, brown cone-shaped center, reminiscent of a Mexican sombrero! Very
cool! Seed's are stored here. Shown in these photographs alongside our
tiny red spider zinnias, z.tenuifolia.
