In late summer, I heard from them again! It was August, and our family was planning our first ever vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Char and her husband wanted to come over to visit - they live about an hour away, near Grand Rapids, Michigan. Boy was I busy trying to finish the work at the Farm before leaving for a week, but this couple had touched me with their story of Tony. So I asked them to come before we left on vacation, knowing the peak season blooms would be gone after we returned, and they'd have to wait another whole year. And I wanted to meet them! So they came! Four hours before we were to leave. And we visited and walked and talked and sipped raspberry iced tea....and we shared memories and sweet stories of our gardens. They had brought me a small gift -- pretty gardener window light catcher and a vase I will cherish. Now, when I look at these ornaments in our home, I think of Char. They had to leave, but not before Jim had snapped several photos of their visit to the Farm. I remember him pulling a 5 gallon bucket from the barn and just sitting on it, looking at the hummers and finches and sunflowers and snapping his pictures. It always makes me feel so good when people can come and enjoy what we so often take for granted -- peace and beauty in the country! I sent them off with lots of seeds we collected together as we walked about the gardens... Here are Jim's photos from their visit. I hope they come back again next year and the year after that.....
