African Zinnia - Z.Melampodium -
Mini Zinnias: African Zinnia - Z.Melampodium - Rare,extra dwarf 8" plants growing in a mound with tiny 1" flowering zinnias, looking much like a dwarf daisy. We like them best in a hanging basket; others plant as a ground cover, where a border of zinnias is desired. Newest offer this season. These flowers look much like the Sanvitalia Procumbens but are actually slightly larger, and the stems and stalks are VERY different, being compact, bushy, and almost “woody.” EXTREMELY DROUGHT TOLERANT! Lovely in a hanging basket. Seeds very dear at $2.50 per pack for 25 seeds. Profusion Zinnia flower is "thicker" and larger, whereas the Z.Angustifolia has longer, more tapered leaves. EXTREMELY DROUGHT TOLERANT! Lovely in a hanging basket! Spreads just like the Profusions and Persian Carpets. Just tinier blooms, but still larger than the Red Spider Zin shown elsewhere here!
Notice the background zinnias in the photo above, that look for all the world like teeny-tiny sunflowers! These are sanvitalia procumbens (sold as "spreading yellow and orange zins from the above link). Compare these photos to the Profusion Cherry and Portulaca shown below in our flower box:
